The camp at Ndevu

view of campsite The big campsite at Ndevu is situated directly on the banks of the Luangwa river. Chriss Weinand has chosen a beautiful site, in amongst the massive trees which form the riverine riperia.

Three chalets, a dining area, a kitchen area and 2 big containers for valuables make up the site.

The whole area is surrounded by a reed fence. This still did not prevent an old bull elephant from walking through the camp on the first morning we were there.

cup of coffee Daybreak on the edge of a Central African river is a symphony of sound. I counted 14 different bird calls at once as I lay in bed in the predawn darkness.

However it gets light quickly in Africa and the kitchen staff would already have boiling water ready for the first cup of coffee by the time I was out of bed. A magical time of day!

Rivers edge Wandering along the river edge still with a cup of coffee in hand. The start of the hills appearing downriver.

Watching the flights of Carmine and White-fronted bee-eaters. The Hadedas, Senegal Coucals, Black Eyed Bulbuls, the Ring-necked, Red-eyed and Emerald spot Doves. The Fish Eagles and Yellow-Billed Kites. Saddle-Billed Storks and Hamerkops. Maybe even the stoop along the river edge of what seemed was a Hobby Falcon....too many species to mention.
