Paul's two Landcruisers had been loaded and prepared by Chriss
Weinand at Pioneer Camp near Lusaka. Chriss manages the operations
in Zambia. However the chef at Ndevu, Greverton Sakala, had radioed
in a list of supplies to be brought out. These included fresh
vegetables and so a stop at a grocery store in Lusaka was necessary.

As always in Lusaka the vehicles need a presence to deter theft.
They also always attract the beggars. Here the unfortunate can only
dream of western style Social Security.

The Great East road runs from Lusaka to Chipata before continuing
on to Lilongwe in Malawi.
Here we take a short break before the road drops down towards the
Luangwa bridge.
After the bridge we continue another 70km on a road in sore need
of major repair as far as Nyimba. From there we head north the last
50 km along a very primitive gravel road to Ndevu on the river.
