Trip to the Luangwa Valley in Zambia

The Luangwa River The Luangwa river rises near the Tanzania border in Zambia. It flows south for most of its journey through the broad flat Luangwa valley. Two of the most well known African National Parks lie in its confines. The North and South Luangwa parks.

However about 100km south of the South Luangwa Park, the river is confined by a range of high hills. From then on it snakes its way through the hills for 70 kilometers before dropping down into the Zambezi valley.

Looking down on the River from the hills

My brother Paul is the owner of a 40,000 acre property which runs 17 kilometers down the east bank of the river just as it enters the range of hills.

In late October 1999 I joined Paul and friends on a trip to see how the development of the property, Ndevu, into a game ranch was progressing.
