We began at the 'mecca' of Africa - the Victoria Falls

A spray sodden Lilac-beasted Roller, hawking insects on the edge of the cataract, bears evidence of how drenching the spray can be.

Looking back towards Devils Cataract 'Mosi oa Tunya' - 'The smoke that thunders' is back-lit by the late afternoon sun.

Watching the evening fire at Dimbangombe, Allan Savory's holistic management ranch/teaching center near the Falls

There is nothing quite like looking into the flames of a fire around an African camp site listening to the eerie call of a Scops owl in the distance.

Allan Savory is one of the legends of Africa,

Politician, naturalist, visionary. Creator of Zambia's North and South Luangwa National Parks and Zimbabwe's Mana Pools and Kazuma Depression National Parks.

As the (only) warden and responsible for shooting 'rogue animals' in all of northern province in then Northern Rhodesia, Allan has probably shot more lion and elephant and hippos than any person alive today.

Early in the morning Allan, and his gracious wife Jody, join me for coffee (my 5th cup since 3am) around the fire as the sun rises.

Allan, still bare foot in the chill African morn.

Only in the daylight is it evident how magnificent are the Acacia Albida under which the camp tents are pitched

Sharing a joke with Jody, Roger Parry (Dimbangombe manager) and Allan's son Rodger.
